About This Spot

Stepping into Kaktus Espressobar on Vitastígur street feels like settling into a quiet corner of Reykjavík where time slows just enough to savor simple pleasures. Soft, industrial-style lightbulbs cast a warm glow over a scatter of flickering candles, while clusters of thriving green plants breathe life into the space, creating a subtle harmony between urban edge and natural calm. It’s the kind of place where locals gather—not rushed, but unhurried—taking moments to connect over coffee or a thoughtful breakfast, setting a relaxed, inviting pace from morning well into the day.

The heart of Kaktus lies in its unassuming balance between a carefully curated café and a neighborhood gathering spot. Here, the atmosphere nudges visitors toward savoring more than just a drink or bite—it’s about the lingering warmth of community. Whether you’re drawn in by the enticing scents of freshly baked bread or the rich aroma of earthy coffee blends, each visit unfolds with familiar comfort heightened by small, delightful discoveries.

The menu isn’t just a list of options but a gentle invitation to slow down: a morning platter shared over quiet conversation, a cup of chai latte whose spices wrap you in cozy familiarity, or a slice of lemon cake that tastes like a moment’s indulgence without fuss. Vegan offerings and creative coffee twists suggest a thoughtful care for diverse tastes, mirroring the friendly attentiveness of the staff. There’s an honest, lived-in authenticity here that mirrors the city’s rhythm without rushing it.

What stands out most is the human element—the welcoming smiles behind the counter, the easy camaraderie among regulars, and the thoughtful touches that make wandering in feel like coming home. Kaktus Espressobar is a quiet kind of lively, where the hum of conversation and clink of cups carry stories and the simple joy of shared experience.

Incredible coffee shop. I had a beetroot cacao latte with oat milk and added a shot of espresso. Staff are so nice. Love the vibe -

The chai latte is delicious!! I also love the vegan sandwich with hummus and avocado. My favorite thing about this place though is the ambiance. The lighting is so cozy and soft with industrial looking lightbulbs and lots of candles spread around the cafe. There are also many plants (real, not fake) and the staff are super nice. Highly recommend this place!

In my opinion the best place for coffee and baked goods in Iceland. This seems to be full of locals which says a lot.

Kaktus is a fantastic neighborhood Cafe and bakery. The employees were happy and helpful, and the pastries and baked goods were exquisite. We had the spiced cake, lemon cake, pain au Chocolat, banana bread and some of the sandwiches... All of them were top tier. We ended up coming here both mornings we were in Reykjavík and can thoroughly recommend it to other visitors! Side note that the banana bread might be the best I have ever had.

Nice place with quite a few locals in the morning. A good selection of breakfast and nice bread to go along with it.

This place has a nice cozy atmosphere and gives the cute cafe vibes. We had Breakfast here where we ordered avocado vegetarian sandwich along with sourdough and coffee. The food and service both was good.
